New scenes from director Makoto Shinkai’s first new film in three years, Suzume no tojimari (released on 11 November), have been released, showing cuts from the trailer released in September, in which the heroine, Suzume Iwato, and a young man, Sota Munakata, cooperate to lock in a “disaster” that has emerged from an open door. The scene depicts the heroine, Suzume Iwato, and the young “closers”, Sota Munakata, cooperating with each other and desperately trying to close the door, and the mysterious white cat, Daijin, with a suspicious expression on his face.
The film also features a shot of Chika Amabe, a high school girl whom Suzume meets on her journey, and Rumi Ninomiya, the mama of a snack bar in Kobe.
Suzume’s Doorstep is based on the film “Kimi no na wa”. (2016) and “Weather Child” (2019). Set in abandoned ruins around Japan, the film depicts the liberation and growth of Suzume, a young girl on a journey to close the “doors” that lead to disaster. Actress Nanoha Hara plays Suzume and Hokuto Matsumura of the popular group SixTONES plays Sota.
