Sports Day in 2022 will be on 10 October.
Formerly known as ‘Sports Day’, this bank holiday has been renamed in 2020. Last year it was moved to 23 July, when the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics took place, but this year it is on the second Monday of October as usual.
Sport is also a trendy genre for anime. Baseball, football, basketball, and even fictional sports that do not exist have been depicted.
That’s where Anime is! Anime! conducted a survey entitled “What do you think of ‘sports’ anime?”. During the survey period from 29 September to 6 October, 313 people responded.
The male-female ratio was about 25% male and 75% female. The age groups were mainly young, with approximately 60 percent aged 19 or younger and 15 percent in their 20s.
Ball game animation was a prominent feature of the top ranking.
No. 1.
No. 1 was “HIQUE! The support rate was approximately 40%. HIQUE! is based on a volleyball manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. The popular series, which started airing as a TV anime in 2014, is described as “a human drama about high school boys who devote their youth to volleyball! It is a sports anime that even volleyball beginners will find interesting and want to watch again and again, as the matches and volleyball terminology are carefully depicted and explained” “It is wonderful that there are proper stories in schools other than Karasuno High School, to which the main character Shoyo Hinata belongs, and each and every character seems to be the main character. I tend to focus on the winners, but I realized that there are more losers than winners” and “The coming-of-age story of these fascinating characters has won the hearts of fans.
A two-part film version of “HIQUE! FINAL” is to be produced this year, probably another reason for its popularity.
NO.2.
In second place was ” Kuroko no Basket “. The support rate was approximately 10 percent.
Kuroko no Basketball is based on a basketball manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. The main characters have special abilities, such as ‘mimicry’, which allows them to reproduce other people’s plays, and ‘emperor’s eye’, which allows them to anticipate their opponent’s moves. Some said that the flashy game scenes left a lasting impression: “I think it is a work that can be enjoyed even if you are not familiar with basketball” and “I was fascinated by the special moves that make you want to copy them, which could just barely be done in the real world, and the deep relationships between the unique characters”.
Titles celebrating the 10th anniversary of the anime ranked high on the list.
No. 3.
In third place was ” SLAM DUNK”. With a support rate of approximately 7 percent, the top three were all based on Weekly Shonen Jump.
The TV animation and film versions of this work were produced between 1993 and 1996, and the much-talked-about THE FIRST SLAM DUNK is due to be released on 3 December. ‘A milestone in basketball anime. The way Sakuragi Hanamichi gets into basketball and works hard is full of the charm of sports” and “This is the work where I learned the importance of hard work. The coach of Kainan High School says, “There are no geniuses in Kainan, but Kainan is the strongest!” I can’t watch the scene where Mitsui, who has failed at basketball, reveals his feelings by saying, “I want to play basketball. ……without tears. The story is still passed down through the generations, so even people who have never seen the film probably know it.”
The top three titles with the most famous scenes and lines for each fan were ranked as follows.
