Studio Khara announced on October 6th that it is planning a new theatrical anime project based on the anime series “Space Battleship Yamato.” The company is working diligently to start production in 2025.
Khara’s representative, Hideaki Anno, revealed this information at an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the television broadcast of “Space Battleship Yamato.” Khara has acquired the rights to produce a new anime work from Voyager Holdings, which manages the rights to “Space Battleship Yamato,” and has obtained permission to use the copyright from Tohokushinsha.
The work being produced by Khara will be a “different journey” from the remake series that began with the 2012 film “Space Battleship Yamato 2199” and continues with “Yamato: Forever REBEL 3199,” whose second chapter is scheduled for theatrical release on November 22, 2024.
Regarding the announcement, Khara representative Hideaki Anno stated, “If I hadn’t encountered ‘Space Battleship Yamato’ 50 years ago, I wouldn’t be who I am today. As long as I’m involved, I want to create a new and exciting series with all the staff and cast, expressing my gratitude, respect, and appreciation, and devote the rest of my life to leaving a legacy of ‘Space Battleship Yamato’ for future generations.”
