Hayao Miyazaki’s Latest Feature Film “How Do You Live?
will be released in theaters on July 14 next year.

Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki (*Saki for Tatsusaki) has decided to release his first feature film in 10 years, “How Do You Live Your Life?

The announcement was made at a Toho distribution lineup announcement held in Tokyo on July 13.

A poster visual featuring a character handwritten by Miyazaki was also unveiled.

　Director Miyazaki announced his retirement after the release of the 2013 film “The Wind Rises,” but he retracted his statement in 2005.

He will begin work on a feature film, the title of which was later revealed.

　The film is an original story that borrows the title from the 1938 novel of the same title by Yoshino Genzaburo, which Miyazaki was moved by when he read it as a boy.

Although the title is the same, the content is completely different, and the original story and screenplay are also written by “Hayao Miyazaki.

　Minami Ichikawa, director and senior managing executive officer of Toho, said that the company has not received any information about the film, so much so that “we don’t even know what the character in the visuals is.

　Ichikawa said, “From what I have heard from producer Toshio Suzuki, I have a feeling that this will be a very youthful fantasy work, even though Miyazaki is over 80 years old. I look forward to seeing the finished film with a clean slate.

We will keep an eye out for more information to be announced by Studio Ghibli and other studios.

　Regarding the release date, Mr. Ichikawa said, “We will release the film in the middle of the summer vacation period, which is the most convenient time of the year to gather with our customers. I hope that many people of all ages and genders will see the film so that we can make as much money as possible at the box office,” he said.
