Namco Bandai Entertainment Inc. has released the latest video of “ONE PIECE ODYSSEY“, an RPG for PS4/PS5/Xbox Series X|S/PC (Steam).
“One Piece Odyssey” is a new RPG based on the popular manga “One Piece” serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, which depicts the new adventures of Luffy and his friends on the “Legendary Island” where a great treasure is said to lie.
The game is being developed by ILCA, with music by Osamu Sakuraba.
In this latest video, the background of “ONE PIECE ODYSSEY” production, the relationship with the original author Eiichiro Oda, the concept of the game, aspects of the game system that have been shrouded in mystery, and the particulars of the music are introduced along with the latest game footage, along with secret stories that only those involved can tell. ◆The concept of “ONE PIECE ODYSSEY
Mr. Katsuaki Tsuzuki, the producer of “ONE PIECE ODYSSEY”, appeared on stage first. He reiterated that this title was created based on the concept of “a great adventure drama that touches the world of ONE PIECE.” To realize this concept, he explained that the development was centered on the ability to experience the drama, adventure, and battles that only “ONE PIECE” can offer.
He added that in order to realize these elements in a more immersive way, it is very important to build the world of “One Piece” in the game that users can touch, and he has spent the most time on worldview construction.
He also said that development of this game started 5 years ago, and since it is an RPG, they spent a lot of time creating the scenario, and the general framework of the scenario was completed in about 2 years. Then he consulted with Mr. Oda about the design. In addition, Mr. Oda designed the original characters “Adio” and “Limu” in this work, as well as animals such as “Kaioh Dragon” and “Hideyoshi Penguin”.
◆Field Exploration
In “Wafrd,” the stage for adventure, various elements in the “One Piece” world were extracted and created, not only in terms of design, but also in terms of settings. Each element that makes up the stage, such as the uniquely shaped clouds of the original story, has been created to create a highly immersive experience.
Wafrd is represented as a 3D field that can be explored. Various enemies roam around, and combat is initiated by bumping into them in a symbol-encountered system.
In the field, players switch between different groups of strawmen in their adventures. Each of them has different characteristics. Luffy can move by extending his arm to a remote ivy, Zoro can cut his way through obstacles, and Chopper can explore narrow places with his small stature.
◆Battle System
The battle system is based on the royal turn-based command battle. The “Scramble Area Battle” element has been introduced to allow players to enjoy the changes in the battle system without getting tired of it while taking advantage of the “ONE PIECE” character.
In scramble area battles, battles are divided into multiple areas, where various enemies and battle-ready gangs are randomly assigned. The player can enjoy battles in which he or she conquers the area by taking into account the conditions of each area, compatibility with the enemy, the gang’s attributes and available techniques, and other factors.
In addition, a “dramatic scene,” a random element that occurs with a certain probability, is also provided. For example, Sanji is surrounded by women, Usopp is surrounded by enemies, and various other accidents (restrictions) occur in battle. By successfully getting through these pinch points, better rewards can be obtained.

In the second half of the video, Mr. Osamu Sakuraba, who is in charge of music for this work, makes an appearance. As a work that travels to various places, it contains a wide range of music genres such as ethnic and orchestral styles, and he said that it was fun to create the wide range of music.
