Makoto Shinkai’s first new film in three years, “Suzume no Tojimari,” opened in 420 theaters nationwide (including 41 IMAX theaters) during the three-day period from November 11 to 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film was released in 420 theaters nationwide (including 41 IMAX theaters), and during the three-day period from November 11 to 13, it drew 1,331,081 viewers and earned 1,884,215,620 yen (including the IMAX advance screening held on November 7, which drew 9033 people and earned 194,330,300 yen).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the first day of its release, in addition to the fastest screenings that started at midnight at 11 theaters in six major cities nationwide, the film attracted a great deal of attention in the evening when director Shinkai made a stage appearance with the star-studded cast, including Nonoka Hara, Hokuto Matsumura, and Eri Fukatsu, as well as director Shinkai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-day breakdown was as follows: “November 11: Attendance: 339,417, Box Office Revenue: 478,834,600 yen”; “November 12: Attendance: 467,788, Box Office Revenue: 665,593,800 yen”; and “November 13: Attendance: 514,843, Box Office Revenue: 720,344,920 yen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u3000In the three days of its release, “Kimi no na wa.” (released in 2016 with box-office revenue of 25.03 billion yen), and 114.9% of the audience and 114.7% of the box-office revenue of “Weather Child” (released in 2019 with box-office revenue of 14.19 billion yen), making it the No. 1 rocket start in Makoto Shinkai’s film history. According to a survey, the film’s satisfaction rating was an extremely high 94.5%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film has also been distributed in 199 countries and regions worldwide, the most in the history of Shinkai’s works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Suzume no Tojimari” is an adventure story about the liberation and growth of Suzume Iwato, a young girl who travels around Japan closing “doors” that lead to disasters in abandoned buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nanoka Hara voices Suzume, and Hokuto Matsumura of “SixTONES” voices Sota Munakata, a young man who is a “closers” who closes doors that bring disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
