Director Hayao Miyazaki, after a decade, has triumphed with his film “How Do You Live?” (English title: The Boy and the Heron), produced by Studio Ghibli, which clinched the Best Animated Film at the 81st Golden Globe Awards held on the night of the 7th in the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s the first time a Japanese work has won since the award was established in 2006. This is also the first nomination and win for a Miyazaki film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Golden Globe Awards, considered a precursor to the Academy Awards, saw other nominees in the category including “My Element,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Suzume’s Door Locking,” and “Wish,” all of which Miyazaki’s film outshone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This movie was released in 2,205 theaters across the United States & Canada on December 8 of last year, and it garnered approximately $12.8 million (about 1.86 billion yen) in box office revenue in the first three days of opening (including advance screenings), ranking it first in the North American weekend box office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s the third Japanese film to achieve this ranking, following the 1999 release of “Pok\u00e9mon: The First Movie \u2013 Mewtwo Strikes Back” and the 2022 release of “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.” This marks the first time an original work has achieved such a feat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
